BEYOND THE SCHNITZEL

for English see below

BEYOND THE SCHNITZEL

Where & how to source & eat sustainable, healthy, fair & tasty food in Vienna*

BEYOND THE SCHNITZEL

Where & how to source & eat sustainable, healthy, fair & tasty food in Vienna*

You are new to Vienna? You just moved here to study and get to know the city? In October and November we discover the Viennese food system: "Arriving new" in a big city is not always easy and is associated with some practical as well as personal challenges. Eating 'well' without giving in on your principles combined with an often tight student budget can be quite challenging; especially if you are new to the university and new to the city. Join us on this journey and be ensured that in addition to new experiences and learning about the Viennese food system, fun and good food will not be neglected!

Participation is free of charge!

Day 1: Share a first bite: Taste Vienna’s food system

Date: 20.10.2022, 18-20 h
Location: The Student Hotel Vienna, Nordbahnstraße 47, 1020 Vienna
Entry: Free! Snacks and Drinks provided

Experience the various ways in which people in Vienna connect with food and share your own experience.

Join this workshop to explore how food reaches our plates while tasting some Viennese wine and local products. We will use this time to individually reflect on and to discuss in small groups how each of us is connected to the food system, how different food systems look like, and then we look at the challenges and possibilities of the mainstream food system in Vienna.

Day 2: WTF - What’s the issue with our food system?

Date: 03.11.2022, 16-18 h
Location: WeltTellerFeld, Schilfweg 20c, 1220 Vienna
Entry: Free! Snacks and Drinks provided

Our globalized food system at a glance: join an excursion to the “WeltTellerFeld” project in Vienna.

At the educational project “WeltTellerFeld„ in 1220 Vienna we will experience food consumption in Austria, the area and resources required for its production and the challenges which come with it. We will learn about this in a very practical way: on 3000m2 the project visualizes the land use and agricultural crops behind the average annual food consumption in Austria. But besides the challenges we will look at (and taste) possible sustainable solutions in our individual consumption as well as the food system.

Day 3: READY - SET - FEAST!

Date: 24.11.2022, 17-21 h
Location: Community Cooking, Absberggasse 27 / Kulturhaus Brotfabrik, 1100 Vienna
Entry: Free! Snacks and Drinks provided

Let's explore, compare and taste solutions for our future food system
After our discovery of alternative food supply systems troughout Vienna, we will meet again to share our experiences.
We will discuss advantages and disadvantages of alternative sources of food supply (such as food coops, farmers markets or community supported agriculture). We will summarize our findings and reflect on our shared food experiences.

And, last but not least, we’ll enjoy our final evening together!
